Last week, there were speculations and news about the Xiaomi Mi
5. Rumor has it that the Chinese company, Xiaomi, will use a
next-generation Snapdragon processor for their Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone.
Bezel-less display and 3D touch technology are the features to
anticipate on the rumored Xiaomi Mi 5. Below are the news and updates
regarding this Android device.
In addition, the same post specified that two Mi 5 variants would hit the market: a $311 Mi 5 and an upgraded device with a $389 price tag. Either way, these figures are merely speculations. We are still waiting for the official news.
A post from Weibo showed two new rendered images of the rumored device. The first image revealed the front of Mi 5 with thin bezels. There are speculations that the Mi logo and the home button will sport a fingerprint sensor.
Other speculations indicated that the “leaks” about the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner are no longer possible. The Chinese company was hoping to include the Snapdragon Sense ID 3D technology. The technology indicated that it did not require a home button because the sensor can be anywhere on an Android device’s screen.
Aside from the fingerprint sensor, the 3D touch technology – one of the rumored added features – will be included in Mi 5, allowing for pressure-sensitive interaction with the screen. For example, you can copy text with a lighter press or cut text with a heavier press. One can also use it in gaming, creating a new way to play games with heavier or lighter presses.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus images from TENAA gave us an overview of what to expect from the device. The gadget’s appearance seems somehow similar to Xiaomi Mi 4. Another post from December 8 gives us the best Mi 5’s angle image. Its extremely thin side bezels make it look like an attractive and premium-quality Android device.
Mi 5 Plus is said to have Gorilla Glass 4, which will protect its front and back panel. Aluminum sides will protect the curves of the phone, with the volume rocker and power button on the right side, and the SIM card slot on the left side. The thickness of the phone will be just 6.95mm. That makes it thinner than its predecessors.
KJuma, a Weibo leaker, said that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will come with a 5.2-inch display with a of 2560 x 1440 (1440p) resolution. On the specs sheet, the display quality of the Mi 5 will place it at par with the big brands’ flagship smartphones out in the market.
In early December, images that came through gforgames.com showed an almost bezel-less display of a presumed Mi 5 device. The physical appearance of this Android smartphone was astonishing. The design of the gadget can easily make Mi 5 one of the most attractive phones money can buy.
Gforgames.com,
a famous leaker, hinted last November that the Xiaomi device would use
the Snapdragon 820 processor chip. This rumor made the earlier
speculation about Mi 5 using the Snapdragon 810 processor chip a
contradicting news. The said rumor came out when Qualcomm unveiled
Snapdragon 820 on November 20.
Mi 5 is expected to have 4 GB of RAM. Other than these rumors, the other specs of the Chinese device are still unknown.
Xiaomi Mi 5 will likely have a 16 MP rear camera paired with a dual-LED flash and a microphone pinhole beside it. There will also be a 6 MP front-facing camera. According to Mobipicker, the 16 MP camera will be a “flip side” camera, which will be kept hidden in the chassis of the phone and will pop out when taking pictures. By the looks of it, this solution can be an interesting one. We will be waiting for Xiaomi Mi 5 to be released so that we could test out the phone ourselves.
When will it arrive and how much will it cost?
A lead about Mi 5 came from a post on Weibo that the Chinese company, Xiaomi, will be revealing Mi 5 on January 21, 2016, with the actual product launch in the following month. The source of the post is yet to be confirmed, but since the Snapdragon 820 processor has now been officially announced, it is possible that the plan of launching Mi 5 will push through. In addition, the same post specified that two Mi 5 variants would hit the market: a $311 Mi 5 and an upgraded device with a $389 price tag.
